Groove Phi Groove SFI

Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. was founded at Morgan State College (now Morgan State University) on October 12, 1962, by fourteen daring, young, black American men who wanted to change the way we think about brotherhood. Our founders established the Fellowship with the purposes of promoting academic awareness, ethical standards, and unity among men in undergraduate and graduate college programs; creating intelligent and effective leadership; and studying and helping to alleviate the social and economic problems of society to generally improve the world.

Mission

The Groove Community Foundation, Incorporation’s mission is to: serve mankind through the growth and development of young men through the Groove Leadership Academy, develop community service initiatives, support communities during natural disasters, and recognize individuals who have excelled as volunteers. It is hoped that families and individuals will reach self-actualization as a result of Groove Community Foundation, Incorporated efforts

Programs

The men of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. actively support and participate in various programs and projects which aim to serve the communities in which we live. Some of these programs and projects focus on black Americans; however, the Fellowship does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, national origin, or physical impairment. Nor do we provide a financial benefit to individual members of the Fellowship, as Groove Phi Groove is a 501(c)(7) not-for-profit entity, and the Groove Fund is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable entity.

The Fellowship’s National Programs & Projects Manual includes information about the following:

  • The Groove Fund, Incorporated Scholarship Awards Program

  • The Groove Fund, Incorporated Tutorial Program

  • The Groove Phi Groove Mentorship Program

  • Project Outreach

  • Project Missing Children

  • Project UNCF

  • Project NAACP/Urban League

  • The Boy Scouts of America

Although the programs and projects above are specifically mentioned and described in the National Programs & Projects Manual, individual chapters are encouraged to conduct and support additional types of activities that foster the Fellowship’s beliefs and mission.
